Superheroes

This week we have been thinking about superheroes. The children have continued to enjoy our new dressing up clothes and we have had some great creative play.  Many children made a superhero crown or wristband and practised writing or copying their name.

In literacy the children heard a story about a pirate. The story was read part way through and the children had to think how the story might end.
In maths we continued our work looking at shapes in the environment finding objects inside and outside that have different shapes.

As part of Financial Capability week in school we had a shop open for business in the role play area. We also had some different  coins hidden in a block of ice which the children tapped away at to break it into smaller pieces and then watched as the coins gradually appeared as the ice melted.

Next week we are thinking about Christmas around the world and practising our Christmas tableau. Over the week some parents from nursery have kindly agreed to come into nursery and spend a few minutes telling us about Christmas in a different country. In RE we will be learning about Advent.
Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

Have a lovely weekend.

Nursery Rhyme week

This week we have been singing lots of different nursery rhymes as we joined in with World Nursery Rhyme week. We also practised clapping a repeated rhythm and making up our own rhythm using either our hands or a musical instrument.

On Tuesday we had a very interesting morning when Alice Hemming visited to share two of her books. We joined the rest of the school for an assembly when Alice read one of her stories called Bibble and the Bubbles and then told us a little about how she became an author. Later she visited the nursery and read another story and asked the children to act out some of the story. She had lots of volunteers.

In RE we started our new topic on Birthdays. We celebrated Bumbles birthday who had turned 4 years old. We played some party games and then helped him blow out his candles and eat his cake.

In maths we thought about shapes that are all around us and looked at some objects in the nursery classroom and talked about what shape they were.

Next week we are thinking about the characters and events in stories. We will be listening to a story and then seeing if we can think how it might end. This week we have been given some lovely superhero costumes so we have decided that next week our theme is going to be superheroes.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend

Autumn

This week has had two themes: “Stay and Play” and autumn. Each day we have had several visitors to nursery as the children’s mummies and some daddies joined them for the first hour of the day. Thank you to everyone who attended I know the children enjoyed having an opportunity to show you some of the things they do during the week.

On Monday we went for an autumn walk in the woods. The children each took a little bag and collected leaves of different shapes, colours and size. During the week we have done lots of different activities with leaves, sticks and conkers.

How many conkers can you pick up with one hand?

Can you make the shape of the first letter of your name using the leaves and conkers?

Patterns with sticks, leaves and feathers

Next week we are starting to think about shapes that are all around us and will be looking around the nursery and school environment to see what shapes we can see. On Tuesday we have a special day as an author Alice Hemming is visiting the school and she will be coming to nursery to tell the children about one of her stories.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.
