Frozen

We have had a lovely week taking part in activities relating to the film “Frozen.” We have talked about how ice is made and tried picking up and counting ice cubes using tweezers as well as building up our muscles trying to break up a big block of ice. We watched a clip from the film when Olaf dreams about living in a sunny place and talked about why this wouldn’t be possible.

We have also enjoyed lots of singing and listened to songs from the film in Japanese and Spanish as well as English. The children have practised their phonics making shopping lists for parties and thinking about who they would invite to a “Frozen” party.

We started the week by taking a winter’s walk in the school grounds and the woods looking at the changes from autumn and how some trees have lost their leaves and some haven’t.

In story time we visited the reception classroom and had a story from one of the reception staff. On Tuesday Mrs Stocks came to read a favourite story to us.

We finished the week by making some sandwiches. We chose which filling we would like and had a go at spreading the butter and filling.

Next week our theme is “Goldilocks and the 3 bears”. We will be finding out about adding together two groups of objects and looking at the letters and logos that we find on different food packages.
Here are some of the other things we have done this week.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend

Dinosaurs

This week we have been finding out about words that rhyme. We have played lots of different games matching pictures and making up nonsense rhymes. We have enjoyed some rhyming dinosaur books including “Dinosaur Roar” and 10 Little Dinosaurs.”  Our letter of the week this week was “t” and next week will be “p”.

Thank you for sending in your child’s favourite book. We have enjoyed hearing some of them at the end of the morning. If your child would like to share their story next week please leave their book in their book bag. Next week is foundation stage story week. Each morning we will be joining with reception and sharing stories with Miss Goring and the reception staff.

In PE we continued to think about different ways of moving by using the apparatus to crawl along and under.

In RE we continued to think about how we celebrate at home and at church. We made some invitations to a nursery celebration that we are going to have in a couple of weeks.

Next week we will be going for a winter walk and visiting the woods next to the foundation stage playground. In maths we will be thinking about using positional language to describe where an object is or where we are standing in relation to another person.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

Next Friday at 11.30am is the curriculum meeting for parents of children who started in January but anyone is welcome.

Have a lovely weekend.
