Chinese New Year

Welcome back after half term. Thank you for all your magic moments. The children have enjoyed sharing the different things they have done over half term.
This week we have had a great week finding out all about Chinese New Year. The children have looked at the differences between uncooked and cooked rice and some children have had a tasting session. We had prawn crackers for snack one day which was very popular! We have made dragons, Happy New Year cards and had many a picnic using chopsticks.

On Friday a parent also came to tell us a little more about Chinese New Year and showed us how to make some lovely lanterns.

In number this half term we are thinking all about representing numbers either by writing the number or drawing marks on paper. We played some games and practised counting and recording our scores!

In RE we talked about gathering together for Mass. We made a little church in the classroom and acted out the things that happen at Mass.

What’s happening next week?
Next week we will be thinking about estimating how many seeds we can see and checking our guesses  by counting the seeds. Our sound of the week is d. We will be talking about what a plant need to grow and planting our own seeds. On Thursday we will join with the rest of the school as we celebrate World Book Day. The children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

Here are a few of the other things we have done this week.

Have a lovely weekend

All Around the World

This week we have been thinking about some different countries. To help us do this we have enjoyed two great talks from nursery parents one on Japan and one on Spain.
We  have had a go at speaking words in different languages and looked at where different countries are in the world. On Thursday some children had a rice tasting activity and we will continue the activity after half term as we learn about Chinese New Year

We have had lots of different things  for speaking and listening and  sampled some sour bread and croissants , both of which proved very popular.

In RE we stared our new topic on Gathering. We talked about the things we like to do at nursery with our friends and then found out how we can make different musical sounds when we play musical instruments with our friends.

On Friday we talked about pancake day and ate some pancakes.

Here are some of the other things we have done this week.

I hope you all have a lovely half term
